Field Day line-up 2011

Sydney’s largest New Years Day festival Field Day has announced a mix bag line-up of indie and electro goodness for its 10th Birthday celebrations.

Traditionally catering to a dance-music crowd, the festival has announced a bill made up of a number of Falls Festival’s biggest names for 2010. Playing Field Day this January will be UK dance-punks Klaxons, The Rapture and hard-core pop duo Sleigh Bells

Field Day returns to the Domain on 1 January, check out the line-up:

Seen most of it before though, so to me I would only really want to see Duck Sauce, A Trak's hip hop set, PE, Plump and Erol.

Ps is it a Live Justice set? i thought it was a dj set?

It's just a DJ set from Justice.

But wouldn't complain about seeing The Rapture, Tame Impala and Justice again.

Great mix of hip hop, disco, and electro. With some breaks and tech thrown in for good measure. Also, good mix of live acts and djs.

Such an awesome mix of acts, one of Fuzzy's best yet. Except when the hell is someone going to bring Caribou out? Keen to hear new Crystal Castles live as well.

And what's with Tame Impala getting billed so high...on Falls as well.

Wtf is with all the Justice DJ Sets. I wanna see them live dammit! Better play live for Shore Thing. And why do BDO get all the slack about recycling lineups? The Rapture, Art vs. Science, Cool Kids, Erol Alkan, A-Trak and Aeroplane all played Parklife last year. Reasonably solid lineup but after the quality on Summafieldayze and such its pretty disappointing. Hopefully some of the surprise sets will be good, Boys Noize and Van Buuren/N*E*R*D?

I find it highly amusing that field day is getting away from a traditional edm festival. it's just basically everyone who is playing falls/sunset with a few more dance acts thrown in... but in saying that, fuzzy could hardly just put on the same lineup as two years previously, again

justice dj set would be just..eithwer xavier or gaspaud...djing...but not as justice...the whole idea between justice is the light show the many many empthy marshall amps,the strobes...its a stage show...djing is just a guy in a corner pumping beats..like a vines dj set at splendour

I know the difference. I'm just saying, what I saw at Parklife was definitely not a spectacular light or stage show. I've seen DJs put on better shows.

Edit: Maybe my drugs just weren't good enough.

If you record music rather than play other people's, then I don't want to see you do a DJ set - I want to see you do the songs you recorded. That's why I wouldn't want to see someone like Tiga live, because apparently all he does is DJ.

I see the value in producer live sets. And I generally have more respect for a producer's ability to create music than a DJs to play it. But it can take more skill to play other people's records than it does to play your own.

Daft Punk's live set is pre-recorded, for example. When a DJ is mixing a set on the fly they can create a unique experience. They don't just have to play their own stuff. If I saw Q-Tip or Talib dj, for example, I'd rather they didn't play their own songs. It's more interesting to see what their influenced by / what they put on at a party.

It's a little different for electronic producers. I mean, you do go to a dj set expecting them to play a few of their own productions.

I'm enjoying the popularity of bands like Art vs Science, The Temper Trap, etc. They'll draw so many people away from decent acts over the next year.

That's not what I meant. It's either going to be them or some other Aussie act playing their slot. Either way I'm more likely to be at the International act that's playing at the same time.

For the record; I've seen The Temper Trap 4 times this year (more than I've listened to 'Conditions'). Seen AvS once, but since the release of Magic Fountain, I can't see me going near one of their sets again. Hideous song.

Well, the Temper Trap were on at the same time as Kasabian at the BDO this year. I made the right choice running over to Green and Converse.

This is also where I stand regarding AvS. Except make that since the release of Parlour Vous Francais.

Tickets are $142. I think that is pretty reasonable considering how similar the lineup is to that of Falls Festival - which will likely charge $400+ for tickets.

Either way, I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see $400+ for Falls tickets this year (especially for the 4-day ticket). With Splendour charging about $460, Falls Festival will surely up their price to match the apparent market price now.

matching the splendour price would be a huge risk i reckon. i think falls is a fantastic festival and in a great location, but its not quite level in terms of overall quality (number and quality of acts mostly). with prices going up across all the festivals, and punters being more selective about what they go to and what they perceive as "value", they could risk pricing themselves out of contention. especially with so many of these new years festivals offering a different mix of the same core number of acts.

Nah... the 4 day falls ticket was only about $30 more than a 3 day pass - just the soul night. The festival only has two stages so less acts to pay , which also means far fewer band clashes.
