Manic Street Preachers tour

Welsh alt-rock outfit Manic Street Preachers celebrate twenty years together and a new album with a long awaited return to Australia in November.

The band’s tenth album Postcards From A Young Man – featuring guest appearances from former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, ex-Velvet Underground member John Cale, and Ian McCulloch of Echo & the Bunnymen – will be released in September. The album has been described by the group as “one last shot at mass communication”.

The tour will feature the landmark tracks from the Manics’ twenty year career including songs from Generation Terrorists, The Holy Bible, Everything Must Go, This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, and last year’s Journal for Plague Lovers album, which featured posthumous lyrics by the band’s founding member Richey Edwards, who vanished in 1995.

Saturday 13th November – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane
Monday 15th November – The Metro, Sydney
Thursday 18th November – HQ, Adelaide
Saturday 20th November -The Forum, Melbourne
Monday 22nd November – Metropolis, Fremantle

Tickets on sale Wednesday 18th August.

Stereophonics had tracks that charted pretty high, Manic Street Preachers never crossed into the mainstream radio realms.
I prefer the Manics but I think the Metro is a suitable venue at this stage in their career.

I dunno, wikipedia says MSP's "This is my truth..." album got to number 14, which is higher than any Stereophonics album ever got, and they've had a few singles on the top 100 chart as well...

Stereophonics - No Aussie top 20 albums.
Manics had two - Know Your Enemy and This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours.

They'll fill the Metro fairly quickly I'd suspect... maybe upgrade.

The average nova listener could recognize a few Stereophonic songs, I doubt they would be able to recognize a MSP track. Stereophonics just have the wider appeal. They sold out the Enmore this year without even having a recent hit.

The only MSP track that comes to mind is If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next and I own two of their albums...

Yeah, to my knowledge the only MSP track that was ever really popular was "If You Tolerate This". They strike me as a band with a bit of a cult following, though, so I guess the Metro is reasonable.

The "backpacker" factor also comes into play, without meaning to sound racist.
Like, at the Biffy Clyro gig earlier this year there were like fifty or so Scottish guys around me.

I rang up the local fm radio station to request A Design for Life when i was 15 and they had no idea what it was. I had to settle for U2. True story.
I'm Still a big fan of Everything Must Go. If they played the Enmore I doubt I would attend.

I look forward to a future tour announcements of (for arguments sake) Super Furry Animals going exactly the same way.

I think it's neither strange or an argument.
Dex made a comment about the venue not being the Enmore. MAB made the comparison to Stereophonics and the thread progressed through further comparison.
Good thread discussion in my opinion, good points were made.

I think I would go and see SFA if they toured.

Very underrated band.

I missed them last time, would be all over it if they toured again.

I just made the comparison because it's a British band who haven't had a hit in quite some time touring around, like Stereophonics.

Just seems weird to announce a second show if the first one still has tickets available. I thought that was the whole point of doing more than one show to begin with?
