Soundwave 2011 line-up leaked?

Update: Soundwave confirm line-up and announce Iron Maiden Sideshows.

After months of intense speculation, rumours, predictions and betting it seems that the Soundwave Festival 2011 line-up may have leaked. And if this the real deal then we have one hell of a festival in store come February.

The festival began announcing bands for next year’s line-up back on Wednesday 16th June with the confirmation of Welsh post-hardcore group The Blackout

Since then the festival has officially announced the names of another twenty three of the acts – including the confirmation last night of The Gaslight Anthem, who had previously told FasterLouder they would be here early next year.

As hotly rumoured earlier this week on FL, according to the leak heading up Soundwave in its sixth year are heavy metal legends Iron Maiden who last toured Australia in 2008, following a fifteen year absence from our shores.

Stoner-rock Gods Queens Of The Stoneage are also listed as one of the headliners on the leak. And here’s hoping this one is true because if we are lucky they will be here armed with a bunch of new tracks from their forthcoming album.

The rest of the leak mentions: Slayer, Primus, Social Distortion, Rob Zombie, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Gang of Four, Pennywise, Sum 41, Third Eye Blind, Monster Magnet and many more acts to the bill.

Though the leak has not been officially confirmed by the festival’s organisers it brings the line-up to fifty-three bands.

The full lineup for the festival is said to feature close to seventy bands.

The twenty three acts that have been officially confirmed for the Soundwave 2011 lineup so far (in reverse order of announcement) are:

I agree with you. Tough call. I'd definitely take Maiden over Slayer, but it'd be a shame to see them clash. Hopefully they close up the metal stage early, or put some hardcore band or soemthing on instead last.

Maiden has a broader fanbase (probably because its more melodic and solo driven?) whereas Slayer is probably more of an acquired taste with all the brutal thrash 'n shit.

Well Trivium were arguably the biggest band on the metal/hardcore stage this year and they put A Day To Remember on last.

I would think they'd do the same in this circumstance, if BMTH get announced I think they'll be last on that stage.

Definitely 1 or 2 big bands to come. And I don't think it's to crazy to suggest that Gaslight may close a stage...

never seen iron maiden so they wil be cool to see. slayer didnt show last tour (in adelaide) due to tom's voice being fucked so they better make ammends. primus, qotsa, pennywise and melvins.

Apparently A7X issues were sorted very recently, I believe AJ claimed that despite the 'douchenozzle' manager the door was still open.

And with Third Eye Blind on the lineup I think in the ~20 or so bands left we could be a little more than hopeful for SmashMouth!

last time I saw Melvins was when they supported tool in Perth eight years ago and to this day it's still the loudest fkn set I've ever heard. I look forward to it. and about 20 other bands on the list. If The Bronx can produce a set that's half as good as their 2007 Perth Soundwave one we're in for a mighty treat.

While Third Eye Blind only peaked at #25 on the Billboard 200, it would spend 104 weeks on the chart.[1] Three singles from the album charted in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100; "Semi-Charmed Life", "Jumper" and "How's It Going to Be".[1] It is the group's best selling album, having been certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA.[2]

A 6x platinum album is more records than a lot of those Soundwave bands will sell in their entire career.

I think you underestimate the nostalgia interest of bands like MxPx, Monster Magnet, and I guess Third Eye Blind (although they don't really fit on a Soundwave bill in my opinion).

In ten years time you'll probably want to go and see Bring Me The Horizon even though no one has cared about them for five years (or arguably ever).

Gang of Four are a classic band, I am quite stoked to see them on their also.

If you look in one of the various Soundwave threads I admitted to being very wrong about Maiden, another band I had not listened to much in the past few years.

And I never said I didn't rate them, just said I wasn't into them much. I'm sure i'm not the only person that will be attending Soundwave that isn't a massive Maiden fan, I'll probably still end up seeing them though.

i think seeing gang of four live would be interesting, i hava an album of theirs and just picture them being crazy devo like on stage.

slayer here again? seriously? it seems like they've been here at least once a year for the past 3 or four years, and they're hardly as impressive live as they once were. i know devil driver have been here just as much, but at least their new material and performances are good.

also i would have thought maiden's plane would be a 666.

One of the funniest parts of the Flight 666 DVD is when it introduces Bruce Dickinson.

I thought Eastern Creek was bad because it was so far away from the city. Hot as hell with no shade or easy to get water. Getting drinks was a hassle. Moving through the festival was a hassle as often you were walking through a crowd who are trying to watch a band. Just annoying. Had fun tho:)
