Iron Maiden for Soundwave?

The rumour that Iron Maiden will be part of the Soundwave 2011 lineup has received a boost with the band’s latest newsletter noting that “If you’re of an Australian persuasion, you might want to keep an eye
on the website next week.” The Soundwave lineup will be announced this week. Coincidence?

During the week Iron Maiden’s frontman Bruce Dickinson also attacked the price of concert tickets telling Sky News that punters “deserve not just a great show, but reasonable ticket prices. It’s just not right, you know – it’s a rock ‘n’ roll show, it’s not a cash cow.” Hopefully his comments are reflected in the price of tickets on the tour.

As the Soundwave lineup continues to grow so to does the list of acts that won’t be playing, with festival organiser AJ Maddah confirming that Blessthefall, Yellowcard and Maximum The Hormone will not be on the lineup.

There are currently seventeen acts confirmed for Soundwave 2011 – and though there has been no official announcement from the festival’s organisers, the heavy metal supergroup Hellyeah has also announced that they will be playing at the festival.

Soundwave has confirmed that there will be “at least three more announcements before the Main Announcement” on Thursday 5th August.

Head to the Soundwave all about page for all the latest news and announcements.

i suppose that really depends on who you talk to, but in the same vein of a heavy or just straight up rock band who's big enough to headline such a festival you're talking the likes of :
a reformed sabbath,
a reformed zeppelin,
a reformed pink floyd,
metallica,
maybe a misfits lineup with danzig,
a reformed system of a down,
a reformed deep purple with gillain and blackmore,
van halen (if they could actually keep it together with either lee roth or hagar, or better still have both)
and maybe even a sepultura reunion with max and igor cavalera both in the band.

personally i think the most plausable of anything is having the "big four tour" as the headline in 2012 with metallica, megadth, slayer and anthrax much like has appeared overseas this year.

well i think you could scratch zeppelin, pink floyd, sabbath, deep purple and van halen all from that list - just because i really don't think they fit the demographic that soundwave is aiming for. i think maiden are seriously pushing it, i mean can you imagine them following paramore or whoever on the main stage? the misfits reunion would be a decent sized event, but i really don't think they're number one headline material, they'd be pretty high up the bill though. same goes for sepultura. as for "the big four" thing, i think that might be too big for a festival here in australia, definately a solo show event for the bands. to be honest i don't think soundwave is realistically going to get a bigger hard rock/metal band than iron maiden. if they play, of course...
