CHECK OUT ALL THE PHOTOS FROM DAY ONE AT SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS.

BEST COLLABORATION
Although there are two contenders for this title, the winner is The Temper Trap who invited their buddies Mumford and Sons on stage during their set to sing Down River. The collaboration made for a brilliant moment with the bands harmonising beautifully and it had everyone musing as to whether we can expect an official collaboration between them both in the near future. The entirety of The Temper Trap’s set proved to be a highlight of the first day of musical proceedings, with Science Of Fear and Sweet Disposition inciting the crowd to go wild.

Runner up:
Not to be out done, Ben Harper threw us a curve ball when during his set of greatest hits when he invited INXS drummer John Farriss onstage to play a cover of Never Tear Us Apart. Whilst this song proved to be an upbeat break in proceedings, much of the crowd expressed disappointment at Harper’s mostly self indulgent set.

BEST ONSTAGE COSTUME CHANGE
If you were lucky enough to be in the front-row for Scissor Sisters headline spot at the Mix-Up tent last night, you would have copped an eye-load of lead singer Jake Shears. At the conclusion of what was the perfect festival set, which was kicked off with Night Work and included Kylie collaboration Any Which Way (minus Kylie), Ana Matronic lay Shears down on the stage and ripped of his jeans to reveal his one-piece net ‘mankini’. Whilst he strutted around stage, without a whole lot of support, he gradually pulled the mankini off, waving goodbye to the crowd with a full Shears moon.

Side of stage goss: Craig Nicholls from The Vines was side of stage for most of the Scissor Sisters set and Babydaddy was overheard saying to Ana Matronic as they came offstage that, Splendour was one of the best crowds they have played to all year. Awww, go us.

BEST ‘GOOSEBUMPS’ MOMENT
UK indie kids Foals stole the show on the first day of Splendour with a spine-tingling good set that had all of the festival a twitter. Opening with Total Life, the band had their crowd by its checked collars from the get go. They played a punter pleasing mix of both albums with Spanish Sahara sending shivers across the whole audience.

*Backstage Goss: After their set Foals joined FL backstage at the Splendour studio and had a huge glitter fight, this resulted in some spectacular photos and huge glittery mess to clean up.

BEST NOT-QUITE-A-FAREWELL MOMENT:
The Mix Up tent was rammed full of punters believing this may be the last chance they ever got to see LCD Soundsystem live in Australia. The set was spectacular from start to finish with a near-on full moon and some rave-tastic mirror balls adding to the atmosphere. Clear highlights were Drunk Girls, Trials and Tribulations, Daft Punk Is Playing At My House and an epic, fuzzed-out, extended version of Yeah. A few members of the crowd were left wanting American Scum and New York I Love You, but all in all James Murphy left everyone in a loved-up LCD daze.

BEST SING-ALONG MOMENT
Although many expected this moment to come from one of the head-liners, Hot Chip ended up taking this title when the punters lost their proverbial shit for Over and Over. They also gave the crowd one of the best laughs of the day when after playing One Pure Thought, they introduced their next song saying “This is One Pure Thought, Oh I mean One Night Stand...they all start the same anyway.”

BEST ON-STAGE CHARM
Grizzly Bear turned up the charm in a super-sized GW McLennan tent (it is double the size of that at the old site). It was the last show at the end of their lengthy word tour and they seemed overjoyed to be playing it at Splendour. It is safe to say there was a whole lot of love in the room when they played Two Weeks.

Stay tuned to FL for all of Splendour’s day one live photos and, of course, keep following us on Twitter and Facebook for backstage goss, sneak peeks from our photo studio and all of today’s onstage action.
