Brisbane's newest live musicvenue, The Beetle Bar

At last, Brisbane has a new live music venue.

Located at 350 Upper Roma Street in the heart of the city, The Beetle Bar is hard to miss with its ‘shiny rooftop beetle’.

With original bands playing every week, The Beetle Bar owner Phil Hansson is wanting to provide Brisbane with a funky venue that suits all budgets and will be showcasing upcoming and established musicians.

Free entry, ‘student’ priced drinks and a 450 punter capacity will ensure a good, resonably priced night out in Brisbane.

I was just thinking that. I was at The Excelsior on Sat night watching Super Wild Horses and had a conversation about how desperately the ciry needs another 400 ish capacity venue inner city..

this is a backpackers bar that has got a little adventerous .. what about the other 3 in the same street ?

i wonder where they'll put the stage area. the beetle bar is pretty cool for a generic backpacker/ student bar but it isn't very big. i wonder how it will cope...

My band's playing there on the 6th of August, although they got the line-up all wrong. It's Hawkmoon, not Hawkwind and Jackalpac are yet to confirm.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to the show.

im not sure how this will go - upper roma street is on the very fringe of the city, i cant see many people being out and about in the city and decide to go for a walk up there...

As gumbuoy said, this place is in the middle of nowhere. I work in Milton and walk to the city via upper roma st and all this place is is a tiny backpackers bar. I'm guessing the foam parties haven't been successful enough

I don't actually play in Hawkmoon. I play in Cohagen Quaid. Hawkmoon is my Cousins band. It's actually a U2 song, well that's what they told me anyway.

I'm just counting on the backpackers to fill the space. We're not a "Gourmet" band or a band that most people go out of there way to come and see play so the location of a venue never really bothers me. I do like the intimacy of this venue. That's always a cool thing when playing loud rock n roll. Plus it's our second last gig under the "Cohagen Quaid" name.

In other words, come to the gig. It's an inconvenient place to get too, but at least it's free.

No Jackalpac, but The Cowley Sisters are replacing them. Will be a great show.
