Gorillaz Australian tour

The rumours have been running rampant all week (with a little help from some cheeky Murdoc tweets) and now we can officially confirm the dates and venues for the first ever Australian Gorillaz tour.

This December Damon Albarn is bringing the Gorillaz full live experience down under for the first time ever and if the band’s performances at Glastonbury and Coachella earlier this year are anything to go by, we are sure in for a treat.

The band’s most recent shows have seen the full Gorillaz entourage onboard including De La Soul, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, Mos Def, Gruff Rhys, Shaun Ryder and Bobby Womack. And whilst we can’t yet confirm which guests will be joining them down under, we can reveal that there are some exciting additions to be announced very soon.

The arena sized shows will not only see the band performing tracks from the gorgeous new album Plastic Beach but will feature a huge production including multi-media video, animation, artwork and film which in ‘Murdoc speak’ translates to “a phantasmagoria of sounds, colours and assaults on the senses.”

FasterLouder is pretty damn excited to present Gorillaz:

Monday 6th December – Burswood Dome, Perth
Wednesday 8th December – Entertainment Centre, Adelaide
Saturday 11th December – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
Thursday 16th December – Entertainment Centre, Sydney
Sunday 19th December – Entertainment Centre, Brisbane

Details for an exclusive fan club pre-sale are available through Gorillaz.com and all other tickets go on sale Friday 6th August at 9am.

Check out photos of Gorillaz playing at Coachella this year.

I gotta say - I was at Glastonbury and saw Gorillaz only to walk away to see The Flaming Lips instead.

Gorillaz live show was disappointing with songs unfamiliar to a giant festival crowd. Granted, I'd only heard Stylo from Plastic Beach and not the rest of the album but the songs they played were not catchy enough for a festival crowd. A huge fan of the original album, and Demon Days was alright too.

The show seemed to be all about Damon Albarn and not about the Gorillaz themselves!

I'm willing to give them another chance though, but the Glastonbury show didn't leave me convinced that it was worth them replacing U2.

As someone who is a huge fan everything on Plastic Beach I thought it transferred really well live. I thought Damon showed his class by still being the centre of attention with all those stars on stage.

It's true the festival crowd didn't take it in well, which wasn't helped by the masses of U2 fans there with the sole purpose of making their disappointment known by all (fuckwits basically).

Thankfully, they aren't playing to a festival crowd on this tour.

You do make a good point for fans of the Gorillaz. If you are not a fan of Plastic Beach, you probably won't enjoy the set a whole lot. They basically run through the album and insert their other big sounds where suitable.

Clearly the Courier Mail took the whole press release as is and left out the crucial "we can't wait to see who'll be making the journey to Australia..." part just to make their piece seem a bit more interesting yet invalid nonetheless.

I think the only Self-Titled album song they played was Clint Eastwood with Snoop Dogg. Only from what I read. The rest was Plastic Beach and Demon Days.

(Oh wait, they played El Manana apparently. Anyway, I do feel silly for not listening to Plastic Beach, but a festival is one place you're going to have a whole mix of crowd members, so shake it up a little and make things interesting!)

benr3

They do guarantee you a seat/GA ticket if you book. They can't guarantee where abouts in the arena your seat will be, but if you're buying a GA ticket that's not going to be a problem.

You'll be paying an extra $30-$40 to buy them @SMH but if you want to buy them now to avoid catching S.O.D.S. (sell out disappointment syndrome) and you're not a member of the fan club this is the only option. (unless you want to join the fan club at the cost of $55).

Up to you......

The limit at SMH is ten per customer, I'm sure ticketmaster will let you buy 8 when the pubic sale happens though.

Or you could get super sneaky and buy 4 GA's from ticketmaster pre sale and get a mate to buy you another 4. (If you want seats that won't be a good option though).

They start the set really strong, they play Stylo, Melancholy Hill, Rhinestone Eyes, Dirty Harry and 19/2000 really early... so the first 45 minutes is just non-stop, then it chills a bit and they experiment a lil and it all works really well. You guys have some great stuff to look forward to!
