The end of Gossip at 299
Fri 2nd Jul, 2010 in Local News
With a heavy heart, the operators of Club 299’s Gossip venture have decided to take a different direction, as the historically alternative club shifts its focus to cater for a more mainstream and top 40 crowd.
Having played host to a variety of charismatic, legendary, local and not so local indie acts including Jarvis Cocker, Howl, John Steel Singers and I Heart Hiroshim* and boasting an enviable DJ roster of*Polar Bear, Steve Albino, Mammal, Harvey Satan and J McKay, the closure of Gossip on Saturday nights is sure to be a sad event for all party animals of all genres who just wanted somewhere to dance.
However the club is having two last hurrahs, and they are promising an “indie-dance party to end all indie-dance parties” beginning this Saturday night, 3 July, and the final showdown on Saturday 10 July. So put on your dancing shoes and head out to Club 299 this weekend and next to support the last days of this fantastic indie club before it turns mainstream.
