Peter Hook bringing 'JoyDivision' down under
Mon 21st Jun, 2010 in Local News
Founding member of Joy Division and part-time DJ Peter Hook is bringing the commemorative Unknown Pleasures tour down under this September.
Hook embarked upon the tour in April to mark the 30th Anniversary of Joy Division’s seminal debut album. The shows will see the bassist “and friends” perform Unknown Pleasures in its entirety, as well as a number of the band’s earlier hits including Hottest 100 staple Love Will Tear Us Apart and Transmission.
No details have yet been released about who will be joining Hook in bringing the album to life, however, at a recent gig in Manchester to mark 30 year’s since Ian Curtis’ death, Hookey was supported by his band The Light and joined onstage by former Happy Mondays singer Rowetta , who performed Insight and New Dawn Fades.
Speaking to NME after that show Hook addressed those who have criticised the bassist for ‘flogging a dead horse’ : “Now some people will say, like they did about this show, that you shouldn’t do it and then a lot of people are thinking that you should do it. So it was nice that we had a club full of people tonight who think we should be doing it and the others can just fuck off.”
