The Parklife line-up for 2010 is here and it is well and truly chocked full of some Fasterlouder favourites.

Moving away from a predominantly dance-heavy format, festival promoters Fuzzy have offered some fine indie and cross-over artists on their bill this year.

English upstarts The Wombats will be bringing their signature tunes to our shores as part of the Parklife tour, along with psych-rockers The Dandy Warhols, who we had previously announced would be headed to Australia at the end of the year.

Also on the bill – indie darlings Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, New Young Pony Club and the first lady of the mic, Missy Elliot.

So what sort of crowd will be at this year's Parklife? I just went through the line-up and realised of the top 10 acts I wish to see, only 2 of them are specifically 'dance*' acts. Will the crowd reflect the type of line-up we have, or will it still just be a bunch of teenie boppers and munters?

*'Dance' in this case meaning they are more likely to play a dance festival (PL, FMF, SFD) than something like Big Day Out.

I think it will reflect the lineup, i know plenty of teeny boppers and munters who aren't going cos they hate the lineup, and plenty of my friends going for their first festival many of which don't particularly like dance music and a couple going to see the dandy warhols, wombats etc

events like parklife/summadayze/good vibes are moving towards the mainstream, especially this year and next. i was at good vibes earlier this year, and the crowd seemed pretty normal and laid back. in fact, it was probably better than most of the recent BDO crowds.

as an aside, what's the deal with ticketing for the melbourne event? everything is GA according to ticketmaster, but my ticket specifically says LAWN on it. i'm hoping there's unrestricted entry into the seats.

saw dandy warhols in amsterdam... left half way through because it was so fkn boring. was also really bummed coz i was watching some awesome street musicians before hand and left to watch dandy's.

it was also the first time ive left a show outside of a festival

I went to Perth. Was fun. The Dandy Warhol's were fucking boring and everyone was at Missy Elliott so I went and saw New Young Pony Club, they were probably my highlight of the day, even if I only did see 5 songs. The Wombats were fun and Kele went pretty mental, he did a massive Bloc Party mash-up and closed with Flux.

It was pretty empty this year, seemed to be at about half capacity, which made it easy to move around and get a good spot for bands. Anything else you'd like to know? :)

It was a decent day. Walked there in the rain, which was actually really nice. Then it fined up nicely. Darwin Deez were the standout live act that I saw. Soulwax and 2manydjs showed everyone what live dance acts and good DJs look and sound like. Missy was disappointing but the hype around the stage before she started was up-lifting.

I'll post some photos and maybe a video when I can be bothered.

thanks, I was really wanting to go to this but conserved pennies. I'm glad now, I really wanted to see Missy and Dandy so from reports I haven't missed out. I've always heard good things about The Wombats - everyone seems to enjoy their sets. cheers.

If you're going to an EDM festival and can't decide whether to see Soulwax or Kele Okereke you probably shouldn't have bought a ticket to said EDM festival.

As has been shown with the timetabling, if you bought a Parklife ticket to see the rock bands + the biggest couple of dance acts, you will be disappointed as they are clashing.

I was referring to Soulwax being an iconic EDM act from the last couple of decades and Kele being the lead singer from an indie rock band who would struggle to make the Top Ten Tenderonis Compilation CD.

I was a massive Bloc Party fan, but I just don't get the interest in Kele. His one solo album hardly set the world on fire.

Diversifying is good, they just didnt diversify well. It worked for futures cos they had big names of everything, prodigy, above&beyond, franz ferdinand, booka shade etc something for everyone. Parklife has Dandy Warhols and Busy P and charge $30 more than Futures. Diversifail

It seems to me that you're more likely to alienate your existing fanbase by turning an EDM Festival into a more generic festival that probably appeals less to their tastes. I would also say that if a headliner like Franz Ferdinand enticed you to buy a Future Music ticket then you're probably going to be part of the crowd that has a gripe about too many of the punters being munters.

Because Djs like Mehdi and Jack Beats and those I've never heard of cost a lot less to book than A-Trak, Tiga and Erol Alkan. Maybe they were working on the assumption that munters would be happy to take pills and see a DJ play regardless of what DJ it was. Munters 1 Fuzzy 0

agree. it seems like many festivals like Parkers and Future which were more EDM-based festivals are getting more varied acts. I don't like it. have a dance music festival, attracts dance music munted punters - like attracts like and they'll all be happy. it doesn't matter what the punters are like -roid-hea pill-poppers etc, if you don't like that stuff then you won't go, if you do, then you will.

from reports, Parkers numbers were down too. if you've got enough EDM fans out there to sell-out a festival, why would you change it?

in comparison groove armada were just Prick teasers
promising so much and then failing to deliver
All show and No substance, Disappointing
As for the festival itself, i found people friendly & good natured
all happy to party and not complain too much about the ridiculous
price of alcohol. Still maybe thats why it was so good, nobody was that pissed!!!
Free water , lots better than the one hosepipe at BDO.
All in all a good day and il be back!!!!!!

2manydouchebags headlined today. Missy Elliot brought the aggressive knobs out in full force. It didn't help that she fucking sucked. She spent 3/4 of the set talking and just going "hey hey missy missy yeah yeah yo yo" and then put the cd on for the other quarter and did the same thing changing songs every 30 seconds. Otherwise, Sinden was shit, the bit of Darwin Deez I saw looked alright but my friends thought he sucked so didn't see a lot of him. Midnight Juggernauts were ok. Jack Beats was ok. Wombats were fucking shithouse. Soulwax started off awesome and then got kinda monotonous so took the opportunity to see Kele who was AMAZING even the songs of his new album that i thought were shit changed my opinion live, his live band is really talented as well. Busy P started off good then started playing Dubstep which I personally think is garbage, especially what he was playing so bailed for Mixmaster Mike who was also playing Dubstep so continued on to Grum who sounded like a mashup of soap opera and 80s cop show theme songs remixed for a Starfuckers or Stonewall type gay club. The Gozlemes were $10 and disgusting. The beginning of Cut Copy sounded a bit wanky so continued to wander back to the main stage for Missy Elliott, who, as I said, was shit. 2manydjs played a low budget shortened version of the exact same set from Field Day, was not good. Mehdi was awesome. Groove Armada were mindblowingly insane. Would kill for one last show at the Enmore. And now am way too exhausted to go to Godskitchen, which may turn out to be a mistake, but meh im wreeeeeeeeeeeeeecked.

The best thing i saw was Glitch Mob. That was just amazing, those guys have an amazing set up, and to see them going for it live was pretty rad. Also how they tweaked their songs to add vocals to them as well.

I keep forgetting how impressive Memory Tapes were at the Brisbane Parklife. It would be so easy for him to just use a similar setup as Yuksek and not worry too much about live instrumentals. I would like to see them in a proper venue and with more than 12 people interested in watching.

For me, my day was:

Wolf Gang - Never listened to them before but they were nice.

Darwin Deez - Really enjoyed this. Thought the energy of the band memebers was great and loved the dance routines (yeah, loving the non-music part of a show :P).

The Wombats - Alright but thought they would be better. Maybe it was the crowd/ that it was at parklife. Hoping they play better at their own headlining show when they come back, was really looking forward to seeing these guys.

Kele - Agree with Davey, didn't really like the album but thought the live show was great.

Holy Ghost! - liked the show (saw the second half) and was easy to get to a good spot.

Cut Copy - Bit disappointed they played about 4 new songs out of about 8 or 9 (but I guess they're tired of playing the same songs for a while now). Didn't think the new songs were too good but I'll just give them benefit of the doubt that they're growers + new to play. Hoping for their own show where they can play a decent length!

The 4-5 minutes of the end of Missy Elliot I saw - Meh, glad I didn't see her.

The Dandy Warhols - Really surprised how underwhelmed I was, I thought the energy for them poor and I could barely hear the singer. Left early for GA

GA - Great energy. Don't really listen to too much of their stuff but enjoyed it.

Overall, enjoyed the day. Was easy walking around and the lines for the food stalls near the cave stage were short (saw the LARGEST line for fish + chips near the Atoll stage, so glad I didn't feel like that). Some disappoinments from some of the sets but was balanced out by the surprisingly good ones. Hated the people there though but I knew the kind of people there would be there anyways so I can't really say I didn't expect it. So so so many annoying people though. Wish I saw Glitch Mob now though after the good things I've been hearing about from the last few posts.

Soulwax started off awesome and then got kinda monotonous so took the opportunity to see Kele who was AMAZING even the songs of his new album that i thought were shit changed my opinion live, his live band is really talented as well. Busy P started off good then started playing Dubstep which I personally think is garbage, especially what he was playing so bailed for Mixmaster Mike who was also playing Dubstep so continued on to Grum who sounded like a mashup of soap opera and 80s cop show theme songs remixed for a Starfuckers or Stonewall type gay club. The Gozlemes were $10 and disgusting. The beginning of Cut Copy sounded a bit wanky so continued to wander back to the main stage for Missy Elliott, who, as I said, was shit. 2manydjs played a low budget shortened version of the exact same set from Field Day, was not good. Mehdi was awesome. Groove Armada were mindblowingly insane. Would kill for one last show at the Enmore. And now am way too exhausted to go to Godskitchen, which may turn out to be a mistake, but meh im wreeeeeeeeeeeeeecked.

So, yeah. There's my review

I've never heard someone review Gozleme so negatively. Normally they get at least 3.5 stars. Sometimes 4.5 stars if the cheese is extra melty.

Groove Armada always struck me as a singles band rather than an albums band.
That said, I honestly think the last Coldplay record is their best.

Coldplay fans are everywhere. 90% of teenage / young adult girls that i've met like coldplay. And Groove Armada have some terrific albums, as I've only discovered recently. But yes I'd only give the Gozleme a 2.5. I didn't even finish it that's how bad it was
