Huge local line-up for AlexChilton tribute
Mon 7th Jun, 2010 in Local News
An esteemed collection of local musicians will take to Collingwood’s Yah Yah’s to pay tribute to the life and career of Alex Chilton.
As previously reported by FasterLouder , the former front man of the hugely influential Big Star suffered a heart attack in March and passed away.
Big Star were scheduled to play at SXSW later that week, prompting The Lemonheads’ Evan Dando and R.E.M.’s Mike Mills among others to perform a memorial concert for Chilton.
Now it is Melbourne’s turn to pay its respects, with a line-up that points to just how significant the reach of Chilton’s influence was.
Thank You Friends – A Tribute To Alex Chilton will feature Dan Kelly, Henry Wagons, Adalita and Jordie Lane among over a dozen other performers, playing songs from across Chilton’s career
The night will be headlined by the suspiciously named Tim Rogerstein, presumably of some relation to You Am I’s lead singer and former Rockdogs Captain.
Having been photographed by FasterLouder at their recent secret debut gig , new local ‘supergroup’ Chromenips, featuring members of GOD, Hoss, Vandas, You Am I and Gin Club, will also make an appearance.
