While clouds still hang over the future of the Adelaide leg of Soundwave, organisors of WOMADelaide have announced that the feastival is here to stay as an expanded four day event – introduced as a one-off to celebrate this year’s 50th Adelaide Festival.
WOMADelaide Director Ian Scobie said the resounding success of the 2010 experiment and particularly the overwhelming support by patrons encouraged the decision to make the four-day format a permanent fixture.
“Not since the event became annual in 2003 have we had such a tremendously positive response and extending the festival to four days was an equally big leap of faith” Mr. Scobie said.
The 2010 event attracted over 81,000 people (an increase of 13% from the previous year) with 50% of attendees travelling from insterstate – underlying the events significant tourism and economic value to South Australia.
WOMADelaide 2011 will be held from March 11-14 with the program announced in November.
