Rancid not playing Soundwave2011

Despite persistent rumours, Soundwave Festival has confirmed via their twitter that punk legends Rancid will not be playing Soundwave 2011.

With the start of each new festival season in Australia rumours inevitably run rampant that Tim Armstrong and co will finally break a decade long drought and make their way down under. Over the last few years hopes have been firmly pinned on the team at Soundwave to make this dream become a reality; however, sadly it seems this dream is over for yet another year.

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah twittered earlier this evening: “FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL.I have yet managed not to get Rancid for SW once again. 6 years of begging and still no Rancid. Shitfucksonofabitch”

This comes as a blow to not only Soundwave but also the hoards of Australian fans that have been waiting eleven long years for their punk heroes to return to our shores. When talking to FasterLouder about the band’s seventh studio album Dominos last year, bassist Matt Freeman and drummer Branden Steineckert repeatedly deflected the question of when the band would be touring Australia again.

Here’s hoping that some time in the next decade we can take Rancid off our list of Most Wanted Tours.
