We Love Sounds Perth cancelled

In a sad revelation for WA’s festivalgoers, the Perth leg of We Love Sounds has been called off. The festival was set to make its first stop at Supreme Court Gardens on Sunday 6 June, before moving on to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide the following weekend.

So, why the cancellation of Perth? The festival organisers have issued a statement to inthemix this morning explaining the difficult decision.

“Faced with advanced ticket sales well below any reasonable expectations and meeting the commitments of an enormous budget with extraordinary production, we have no choice but to do the responsible thing and cancel the event.

“When planning for this year’s event began many months ago, the national promoter, Sounds, and the local promoter, Boomtick, were determined to bring something new and fresh to We Love Sounds 2010 – the most important ingredient being that ‘festival’ feel – all acts together in one space for the very first time in Perth.

“Together, the promoters fought hard to make the festival one of the most spectacular on the circuit. This meant unparalleled production and infrastructure costs to ensure all patrons were undercover, experiencing the very best in audio and visual quality.

“Rest assured every situation and scenario to avoid this course of action have been carefully considered. This included scaling back the production value of the event, however this simply wasn’t an option for the promoters. When a patron buys a ticket to one of our events or festivals, they should expect nothing but the best and anything less is unacceptable.”

Ticket refunds are available from point of purchase. All other We Love Sounds and Winter Sound System dates will be going ahead as planned.
