End of the road for HighVibes?
Wed 26th May, 2010 in Local News
The extremely popular Northcote-based street festival ‘High Vibes’ is unlikely to return this year, The Melbourne Times reports.
Due to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the festival it seems has grown too large for High Street, with the Northcote Business Association choosing not to proceed with the annual event.
High Vibes last year featured the likes of Kid Sam, Washington and Liz Stringer amongst almost 100 local and world musicians, performing in various High Street venues, converted hair salons and clothing stores.
The festival employs designated, fenced-off drinking areas, but it is believed that levels of alcohol consumption and the sheer volume of people, believed to have exceeded 80,000 in 2009, are behind the decision not to continue in 2010.
The Association and the Darebin Council are set to conduct a full review of the festival, following consultation with police, councillors and stakeholders.
