The Northern Territory Times claims that Silverchair’s Daniel Johns stunned the crowd at the all ages, government sponsored Bass in the Grass festival by referring to the punters as “sluts” and “whores” and repeatedly using the “C-bomb”.
According to the report in the Northern Territory Times even tradies in the audience were offended, quoting one blue collar worker who didn’t appreciate Johns’ blue work.
“It didn’t worry me,” the anonymous tradie said, “but if I had had a daughter in the crowd, I would have wanted to get on stage and smack him in the head. It was an all-age event and he shouldn’t have done it.”
The editor the newspaper’s gossip section, Daniel Bourchier, also questioned Silverchair’s new material, claiming that Johns is an “old man and it seemed a bit sleazy singing about kids having sex.”
Silverchar headlined the festival on a bill that included Hilltop Hoods,
Empire of the Sun, Jessica Mauboy, Children Collide, Short Stack,
Horrorshow and Redcoats.
The newspaper has also made the shocking claim that punters were smoking at the festival, noting that one fan reported that “It wasn’t only tobacco that was being smoked. I smelled marijuana throughout the day.”
