The life of a musician…trashing hotel rooms, the girls and the non stop party. Well, that’s the dream. Alas, the reality it often slightly less glamorous, and one lucky photographer, Brad Marsellos, braved the touring life of a musician to create In A Van: Violent Soho, a new photo exhibit that documents Brisbane boys Violet Soho’s touring life.
During the Australia Day long weekend of 2008, Marsellos joined the band on a whirlwind, 4000km journey along the east coast of Australia to play a handful of dates before the band jetted off to the USA where they have been touring for the past 12 months.
The exhibition showcases the dark side of touring with black and white images capturing the band sleeping on floors, eating junk food and pissing in bottles en route. But Marsellos still manages to capture the life and reason of why Violent Soho are so damn good, with full colour live shots from their various gigs.
Opening night for the exhibit is Friday 16th July 5pm – late at the Bleeding Heart Gallery, with further viewings Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th 7am- 5pm.
