Blood, Sweat and Beers at theAnnandale

Six months after taking over the Annandale for the second time, Sydney’s bloodiest, sweatiest and beer-iest mini-festival is back for round three. Blood, Sweat and Beers on July 10 will feature a heady mix of punk, ska, folk and hard rock bands, an acoustic stage and merchandise.

With doors opening at 3pm, punters will have plenty of time to drink in this year’s range of veteran and emerging outfits, led by seminal Melbourne punks Mid Youth Crisis. The line-up also includes Sydney ska-core pioneers Gilgamesh, who came out of retirement last year to give the fans a final encore.

Acoustic Lineup announced!

We've stalled long enough on this now, providing the tunes around the free BBQ at Blood Sweat and Beers will be:

Jen Buxton (Like...Alaska/Newcastle)
Paul Demos (Lost In Line/Wollongong)
Wil Wagner (Wil Wagner & the Smith St Band/Melbourne)
The Gibbos (Easy Company/Sydney)

The stage will feature originals, covers, and interpretive dance (the gibbos)

Yarns will be spun.

Before ever attending a gig at the Annandale I was constantly told that it was the best place to see live music in Sydney. So I went along to see an acquaintance of mine from the Morning After Girls play there with the band and I was shocked at how shit it really was. Basically it's a pub room and instead of having pool tables there's free space for punters to stand and watch a band on a stage that's really low to the floor. There's really not enough room for everyone if the show sells out and if you rock up late you have to listen to it from the next room.

I understand that it's a great venue to see local bands really cheaply but I don't understand why so many international bands play there? Is it the atmosphere? Or do they all come back for the novelty of the projection screen being lowered as the bands set up?

I still haven't worked out what the actually problem is. It is a decent stage, the acoustics are great, the sound is usually pretty damned good. Its raw, its dingy. Its what it should be.

Sure was, shame the neighbours were making noise complaints. Don't live near a pub then!

A successful day/night for all involved that did not get thrown out. Great music, great crowd. Would attend again.

Mind you is was a throw back to living in Newcastle in the near on a decade ago, hearing Conation mentioned seperately twice, then a conation t-shirt worn on stage. But it all ended up making sense, that Jamie Hay looks a lot older than when I last saw him, still making killer music however.

It was a great event. I went for Gilgamesh and MYC but also enjoyed Identity Theft and The Go Set. Wished we had of gotten there earlier. i'm sure we missed some excellent sets.
