Lidell disses Beck
Tue 11th May, 2010 in Local News
Jamie Lidell worked with Feist, Chris Taylor from Grizzly Bear and Beck on his new album Compass, but he wants it known that he’s his own man.
Speaking to FasterLouder recently Lidell downplayed Beck’s role as producer on Compass noting that it “didn’t actually work out, in the end”
“He wanted to work maybe more as a writer with me,” Lidell explained, “but with this album in particular I think it was very important that I wrote it. So I needed to part company with him quite early on in the process.”
Though Beck’s sessions with Lidell seem to have faltered, it hasn’t stopped another indie fave – Stephen Malkmus – from bringing him into the studio.
According to an interview in Mojo, Malkmus and his band the Jicks recorded with Beck earlier this year, though the fruits of those sessions are on hold while Malkmus tours with the reunited Pavement.
You can read more about Lidell new album – and his views on Beck’s Record Club: “he’s always up to some nasty shit like” – in the full FasterLouder interview coming soon from jonnoseidler.
