Grizzly Bear sideshows

With a spot on the massive Splendour In The Grass line-up locked in, Grizzly Bear will also play sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold proclaimed Grizzly Bear’s last album Veckatimest “the best record of the 00s” and FasterLouder’s review saw few reasons to disagree.

FasterLouder’s reviewers were also generous with praise for the band’s live shows earlier in the year declaring that “Grizzly Bear massage the soul with hypnotic melodies and operatic sensibilities.”

The size of the venues for the Splendour sideshows proves that Grizzly Bear’s fan base has received a healthy boost since playing at the Falls, Sunset Sounds and Southbound festivals in summer.

The acclaimed indie rockers – and recent lottery ad soundtrackers – step up from playing at the Sydney Festival bar, Fremantle’s Fly by Night, and the Corner Hotel in Melbourne to take on the larger Palais and Enmore theatres in July.

Grizzly Bear sideshows:

Sunday 25th July – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Tuesday 27th July – Palais Theatre, Melbourne

Tickets go on sale Tuesday 4th May

Grizzly Bear were really good at City Recital Hall earlier this year.

If you like the band they are worth seeing.

The double show I am hoping for is Broken Social Scene/Band of Horses.

All these concerts. My wallet recoils in a fit of exasperation, but mine ears rejoice in a thingy of good.

Enmore is a great venue for this. Though I saw them at Falls.

what are the chances of a decent international supporting the strokes??

Braveheart81

Braveheart81 said on the 29th Apr, 2010

Considering it's a Splendour sideshow, quite likely.

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 29th Apr, 2010

I reckon they'll get one of the smaller bands on the bill for support. Maybe Two Door?

oldgregg

oldgregg said on the 29th Apr, 2010

i would welcome that. the drums are actually pretty good as well, would be happy with them. any chance of two small internationals?

Who knows? At this stage, all we can really do is speculate.

$72 for A Reserve! Wow, almost 30$ more than last time they were here. Will probably save my money and hope for a BSS/BoH double.

The last tour (the Sydney shows at least) was at least partly subsidised by the Sydney Festival. Hence why it was cheap.

The Great Monkey War

I'm hoping for Surfer Blood or The Drums.

To be honest, The Drums seem more likely. Surfer Blood have had more exposure here and could easily warrant their own sideshow. Where as The Drums only have like a EPs out so far.

If either of them support The Strokes I will be muchly happy.

The Great Monkey War

The Great Monkey War said on the 29th Apr, 2010

But if Surfer Blood support my friend will absolutely flip.

I got him into both The Strokes and Surfer Blood this year.
