LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chipsideshows

Two of the exciting drawcards on the bumper Splendour In The Grass 2010 line-up will pool their powers for two special sideshows this July. Sydney and Melbourne are set get their weeknight party on with the irresistible double-bill of LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip.

Fresh from the news that this winter jaunt will be part of its last-ever tour, we can only expect LCD to be in show-stopping form. With James Murphy in full flight, the band is a dance-punk whirlwind – something we experienced first-hand at Big Day Out in 2008. They will surely be matched in energy by Hot Chip, who transform onstage from five lovable geeks to a well-oiled dance party machine. The group’s recent album One Life Stand features several numbers itching to be played to a big room, not least the title track and piano house throwback I Feel Better. Expect dangerous levels of fun at these shows.

At first I thought the Hordern might have been too big, but then I figured both could sell out the Metro and probably come close to filling the Enmore if ticket prices were reasonable. Would be a very interesting, fun gig - that's for sure.

The only reason Hot Chip cost so much last time is because they were doing a BDO sideshow, which adds $15-$25 onto how it would normally cost to see them.

Days of splendour being a small and intimate gig are gone - expect the money train on all sideshows.

I'm tempted to head to this show before i fly to QLD on the tuesday, however i think i should control my budget slightly, splendour is gonna be an expensive weekend, thinking about ticket, airfares, expenses (food,. alcohol....etc....) looking at 1k all up if I don't go overboard...

i am still clutching onto a sliver of hope that maybe the rock-it team will organize a festival here to include some of these delicious acts.
chances are though it will be a sydney trip for me.

haha. ok well they rule at crown and sceptre. bdo there was only like 10 people there though and they looked pretty bored. maybe they just dont take to large stages.

just make sure you're subscribed to the online mailing list for modular or ticketmaster and they're send it out. presale hasn't been sent yet, will probably be sent out on the weekend.

That was fucking awesome.

LCD Soundsystem were brilliant. Closing with New York, I Love You (and part of Empire State of Mind) was one of the most epic things I've ever seen. Other highlights: Yeah, Losing My Edge, All My Friends, Tribulations.

Some more thoughts:

- Hot Chip's sound was annoyingly distorted for most of their set. It seemed to get better towards the end, or I noticed it less.

- The guy on the left of the stage during Hot Chip who was dancing the whole time while fiddling with the mixer looked like a munted sailer gym bro at a rave.

- (Hot Chip) There didn't really seem to be a need for 2 or 3 members of the band at any given time to be continuously strumming guitar, since it didn't sound like they were playing much anyway

- James Murphy is (somehow) more awesome than I originally thought (and he is a good singer too).

Was an amazing night. Even though I was incredibley surprised they didn't play Dance yrself clean (thought that would've been a given) as well as some other new tracks, the range from all their albums was great.

wasnt all that impressed by hot chip but LCD just blew me away. one of the best performances i have ever seen.

cannot believe theyve been given only a 1hr block at splendour. glad i saw them at the hordern instead. 1hr lcd set is about 5 songs at best.

Yea it was the synth in the drawn out intro to Losing My Edge on the return from the encore. I was pissing at the urinal and I turned to my friend who was looking in the mirror and said "someone great... maybe" but it didn't happen. I'm glad I heard Losing My Edge though, seems kind of fitting for a final gig (if it is actuall their last tour).
