After announcing last month that This Is Happening will be the final chapter in LCD Soundsystem’s distinguished repertoire, James Murphy is keeping the bittersweet news coming. Speaking to triple j yesterday, Murphy revealed that the band’s return to Australia as part of a truly knockout Splendour In The Grass bill will be their swansong.

“This is our last tour,” the LCD main man told the station. “So this is our crazy, no punches pulled [tour]. We have to do the weirdest stuff. It’s like the most ramshackle basement show ever. It’s the end of this type of thing for us.”

As sad as that prospect is, the LCD Soundsystem live show looks to be in career-best form. Over the weekend, the band strutted its stuff on the Coachella mainstage directly before headliner Jay-Z and from all reviews it was a triumph. “It was arguably the most energetic dance party on the main stage during opening night,” Spinner reported. “The band demonstrated exactly why they’re spoken about with such reverence.”
