The Modfather is coming

In the second most exciting tour news of the day it has been announced that the Modfather himself – Mr Paul Weller – is headed down under this October.

The talent behind mod-punk icons The Jam and The Style Council, Weller remains one of England’s most influential musicians to this day. Having pursued a successful solo career since the early 90’s the Father of Mod has just released his latest musical effort Wake Up the Nation, which features contributions from original Jam bass player Bruce Foxton.

With the album already being described as “the sound of Weller wide awake, ready to take the world on again”, Australian audiences are in for a treat when he returns to Australia this October.

Get out your best Ben Sherman and make sure you catch The Modfather at one of the following dates:

Friday October 15 – Fremantle Arts Centre, Perth
Sunday October 17 – Entertainment Centre Theatre, Adelaide
Tuesday October 19 – The Tivoli, Brisbane
Friday October 22 – The Enmore, Sydney
Tuesday October 26 – The Forum, Melbourne

Tickets on sale 9am April 23.

when he played last time, it was about 50% Weller, 40% Jam, 10% Style Council from memory.

Actually tix are more like 106 with fees and charges...
I missed the last tour though so don't mind paying a bit more than I expected.
The new album has more energy and sounds a bit more like The Jam than his usual solo work too which is good.

it's good to see quality musicians reinventing themselves and coming back on the front scene. the sound is still fantastic and it's a pleasure to listen to paul's music

for the tickets.. yeah tough. i even found $133 for a premium pre-sale (preferred seating, my agency ;)

i caught him last time, along with many times before in the uk when living there. great show and the forum as the venue is a huge plus in my opinion. his shows in the mid-late nineties had a phenomenal energy about them. a little of that has gone but he's still solid at the ripe ol' age of 51!

expect a large repertoire from the new album, with smatterings of old favs and a jam number or two.

anyone want to have a bet how many melbourne shows there will be ? i think there were 3 last year with a 4th thrown in a week or two after.
