what a shit lineup. no offense but most of this lineup is full of recycled bands from splendor and the big day out festivals. the only band even worth seeing would be Ash and maybe the vines and the strokes; such a let down this year.

Ash - who played Splendour last time they were here, and have played Big Day Out in the past

The Vines - who are now synonymous with Splendour after making their comeback as the surprise band, and then played it again the year after, and have also played BDO in the past.

The Strokes - who played the BDO a couple of years back.

If you're going to hate the lineup for being recycled, at lease be consistent about it...

seriously, glastonbury lineup wipes its ass with splendor's lineup and its only $322 including camping for 5 days. this year's lineup is such a let down.

although i will be going to an Ash sideshow for sure.

Ridiculously big line-up! It seems like it'd be much more of 'camp-out' feel this year given the lack of much accommodation around, which has to be a good thing.

This is definitely missing one major headliner that hasn't only just been here. Of those first 19 bands I know off the top of my head 13 have recently been here :/

not to say they aren't all great bands, but nothing really jumped out at me as "wow finally get to see them" other than of course the strokes :/

not to mention being majorly bummed that most of the big acts were heavilly rumored so not even really any big surprises

kyza

recycled or not this is a good festival. 2nd best Soundwave being #1

Seriously though what other bands can you add that are NOT recycled and would seriously festival tour australia. for serious!

I think it's just a case of one to many festivals in the last 3 years. It's killed the festival scene with the same bands over and over [lisa mitchell, temper trap, art vs science, empire of the sun and so forth] and an increase of fucking douche bags.

I like the high ticket price. $120ish a day keeps the douche bag away!

Clashes galore I reckon but I'll do what I always do, if it's a toss-up between a local and an international band... I'll go see the international band. I'm so sick of people getting hyped up about seeing Australian bands at festivals over much better international bands! Discover new bands people, there is more out there than just the music coming from your backyard!

You honestly aren't going to get a line-up much more solid than that. The Strokes for me were the clincher, but so many good acts to back them up! LCD Soundsystem, Scissor Sisters, Passion Pit, The Middle East, Florence, Midnight Juggernauts, Goldfrapp, Grizzly Bear, Miami Horror, The Mess Hall! And about 10 others haha. Plus the fact I'm one of the lucky few who live within 30 minutes of the venue and I'm keen as a bean! AND the fact that in an effort to save money I skipped a lot of festivals so I'm not really seeing a lot of repeats. YAY

How do you guys think this year will rate in terms of difficulty to get tickets? So many people I know are jumping on the bandwagon purely because of hype or only a few acts. I personally think the price isn't enough to stop this being a lucky dip come 9am on the 6th.

i still feel really positive. not intentionally, it's just how i feel.
i think the fact that everyone has to settle in the campsite for the whole time will bring a desired crowd.

Sunnyboyz

Sunnyboyz said on the 16th Apr, 2010

because they dont want to hang in Australia for very long... im guessing.

it happens most years... the big bands play a sideshow one night, then head up to splendour for the second night.

For people like me that won't be able to afford the round trip from Melbourne to Brisbane for Splendour, its still a chance for them to see the Strokes on a friday night rather than a wednesday or thursday.

and in regards to tickets... i recommend selling them for heaps to some fool that will pay loads... it will pay for your trip.

I'm just gonna hit up a bunch of sideshows.

what i wanna know is how the hell are all these acts going to do sideshows? ok the pixies wont be doing one same with ben harper. but here is my theory at the moment for the rest of the acts

the strokes and temper trap at the hordern. mumford and florence and scissor sisters and possibly lcd soundsystem at the enmore. band of horses, richard ashcroft, grizzly bear, laura marling and hot chip at the metro. passion pit, jonsi, broken social scene and delphic at the oxford art factory. the rest of the international acts spread across the manning, forum and where ever else they will fit in. i guess some will also act as support acts to some of the bigger acts.

the week leading into and following splendour will be very very busy and somewhat expensive.

Alexphotosite

Alexphotosite said on the 16th Apr, 2010

I agree with most BUT:

- Hot Chip are too big for The Metro so may play Enmore or Hordern with LCD Soundsystem.

- Passion Pit played The Metro in Summer so their next logical progression would be the Enmore, not downgrading to the OAF.

- Delphic played the OAF recently so will probably upgrade to The Metro or Gaelic Club

- I also think that BOH and Grizzly Bear will probably upgrade and do the Enmore, hopefully as a double act, that'd be awesome too!

- Yeasayer will probably do either the OAF or Metro depending on their schedule and fan-base.

- Last time Scissor Sisters were out they played the Entertainment Centre so they'll probably do the Hordern or if they are feeling intimate may do the Enmore as you suggested

- Ting Tings will play at Cargo Bar or Ivy coz that's where they belong, well they really belong somewhere other than the Splendour bill...

- Goldfrappacino wil play at the Enmore

- BRMC will do Enmore also

- W.A.S. will do Metro or Enmore

- Foals will do Metro with Two Door Cinema Club

Yeah... That's all I've got now...

sarcasm_mister

sarcasm_mister said on the 16th Apr, 2010

yeah i guess you do have a point but we will have to wait and see. i think to fill some of the venues you mentioned some of the acts will need to do an unlikely double billing. and i also wanted to add that im assuming most of the aussie acts wont be doing sideshows as most if not all of them have done about 7 national tours in the past 12 months.

Sideshow speculation is always fun.

What gives you this idea? I recall them not coming close to selling out the Enmore due to ridiculous pricing?

I agree with this, although it baffles me how popular these guys got/have gotten.

Logical, and would almost definitely attend.

Last time they were here, they had I Don't Feel Like Dancin'. No big hits in current rotation this time around, so I'm definitely thinking Enmore. Would be great, very much looking forward to the new album - even if nobody else is.

Ahahahaha. I'm not a big fan either - will their new record be out by the time Splendour's here, anyone? I'll go with Metro again, or maybe the OAF for a 30 second sell-out.

Goldfrappacino wil play at the Enmore

BRMC will do Enmore also

- W.A.S. will do Metro or Enmore

Woah, do BRMC and We Are Scientists really have the following to fill the Enmore? Was thinking the Metro myself - not together, obviously.

Nice pairing, but I'm thinking TDCC to do their own gig, maybe at the Gaelic or OAF.

Anyway, it's all up in the air. Still fun to think about, though.
