Now in its fifth year, Queensland’s annual Q song awards – a search for the states finest songwriters – have announced they are now accepting entries for its 2010 competition.

Entrants in this years competition are given the opportunity to both showcase their work, and share in $35,000 worth of cash and prizes to assist them in further developing their music careers.

Those in doubt of the competitions genuine ability to help build their careers only have to look at previous winners, which include The Grates, Kate Miller-Heidke, The John Steel Singers, Bernard Fanning, Jackie Marshall and a heap of others.

Awards given throughout the competition are spread over twenty-two categories covering Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues and Roots, Urban, Hip-Hop, Dance/Electronic, Alternative, Country, Folk Ballad, World, Punk, Indigenous, Primary and Secondary schools, and more. So, no matter how abstract your piece is, chances are it will satisfy the requirements for one of the categories available.

Over the past four years, Q song has received over 6,000 entries with a record of 2,135 received in 2009, making it the largest awards ceremony of its kind in Queensland.

The competition is open to all unpublished songwriters, with the winner of each category going into the running to collect the Song of the Year Award.
