New live music venue for Perth
Mon 5th Apr, 2010 in Local News
In response to the recent Hydey-shaped hole in local music, The Civic Hotel has stepped up to fill the demand for a smaller front bar style space; and so, they introduce The Den. It’s half the size of their other space and perfect for bands who can’t guarantee the 300 strong crowd needed to make back room gigs truly impressive.
All too often in recent times it seems the headline is about venues closing down due to noise complaints from new neighbours or fears of alcohol related violence by councils who lump live music venues with those other, larger and more knife-loving DJ clubs. So it’s great to hear that another venue is dedicating more space to live music.
The Civic Hotel has long been an on again off again supporter of live music, especially since their back room’s refurbishment, and the employment of a highly skilled sound engineer, the venue has seen quite a resurgence in the number of punters showing up to hear some bands. The new space will see that number jump again, and the Civic may well be remembered by bands in years to come as the place they got their first break.
The Den will open its doors on Friday 16th April with The Ghost Hotel headlining with support from The Belle Ends and 6s&7s. Then on Saturday 17 April at 8pm. Headlined by the much loved but elusive The Bullet Holes with support from Lacey, Art in Algebra and Helix to the Sun.
