MGMT return to Australia

Curious punters will have the chance to hear cuts from MGMT’s highly anticipated new album Congratulations, as well as the hits from 2008’s Oracular Spectacular, when the band plays a special one off show on 6 April at Sydney’s Metro Theatre.

Congratulations is due for release on 13 April, with its special scratchable cover art. While it might not contain any singles, the NME has reported that we can expect an album of “frenetic psych nuggets,” and “echo-drenched mini epics” – sounds interesting.

While the band’s tour in December 2008 earned mixed reviews, their live set as last year’s Splendour in the Grass saw the band in fine form with FasterLouder’s reviewer reporting that “The elfin superstars surprised some at their December shows last year by being more jam band than electro anthem-makers. However at Splendour they were in unabashed crowd-pleasing mode. Two new songs made an appearance in the set-list, but they were overwhelmed by the likes of Weekend Wars, Electric Feel, Time To Pretend and galvanising closer Kids.”

A strict limit of two per person will be enforced for the Metro show to ensure fans have best opportunity to secure tickets.

Tickets will go on sale on Thursday 11 March at 9am.
