Splendour clues in Fujilineup?

The first twenty seven acts have been announced for Japan’s Fuji Rock festival which falls on the same weekend as our beloved Splendour in the Grass festival.

Fuji Rock runs from July 31st to August 1st; while Splendour will cover the three days from Friday 30th July to Sunday 1st August.

So who can we start adding to our list of possible RSVP’s for Splendour? Well, Fuji has snaffled the likes of Yeasayer, Broken Social Scene, Belle and Sebastian, Flogging Molly, Air, Foals, Hot Chip, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, Ian Brown and LCD Soundsystem.

Fuji also includes a few tourists from the Australian summer including Muse, The Cribs, Vampire Weekend, Z-Trip, Massive Attack and Them Crooked Vultures.

While last year’s Fuji lineup didn’t share much love with Splendour, previous years have seen acts playing both festivals and there are a few extra reasons to suspect that some Fuji acts will venture to Queensland this year.

For the first time this year’s Splendour will run over three days, giving the acts a little more time to get down here and of course the move north from Byron Bay to its new home at Woodford means the festival will be a little closer to Japan.

I bet JackT $50 that Blur would play when I was drunk apparently?

Considering how often you're drunk, I think that's a pretty safe bet for you.

Yeasayer, Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem would bring the party. I would go. I also hope that Massive Attack's March tour is a precursor to Splendour.

I think there'd be a few people who'd be very happy to see Foals tour Australia.

Very keen for the new Broken Social Scene album and a tour.

I had a dream that Beck played Splendour and made the whole crowd take off their pants and burn them.

Anyway I have a question. What are the chances of Brisbane sideshows now that its moved to Woodford? Hmmmm.....

Would love to see Air again and would love to see Foals, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and Yeasayer.

And if Broken Social Scene appear as well it might finally encourage me to check out their music properly.

lcd soundsystem is hitting up pretty much every festival, ever, so hopefully australia won't get missed.

but please, not vampire weekend; after splendour 08 i don't think i could take another 40 minutes of one of the most boring bands to stand on the stage. seriously, i think they took maybe three steps between the five of them during that time.

gumbuoy

gumbuoy said on the 2nd Mar, 2010

They're clearly a shoegaze act. What did you expect?

gumbuoy

gumbuoy said on the 2nd Mar, 2010

are they always on exactly the same weekend? it seems like youd have to be pretty hardcore to play two international festivals in one weekend, with an 8 hour flight in the middle...

no matter what, the splendor lineup will be shit, they never get any massive bands to headline. - Janes addiction and bloc party were the only ones close to 'massive' and janes had to pull out. NO LINEUP IN 2010 will beat Soundwave's lineup.

lanesra23

The less 'massive' bands that play Splendour the better. The fact there was unlimited space* at The Specials last year shows the crowd has slipped along way. God help it if they start booking Soundwave and BDO style headlines.

*Happy there was plenty of room for me to get my dance on.

I'm sure Splendour is itching to book a lot of metal, punk, and hardcore bands so they can compete with Soundwave's lineup.

More likely they play BEFORE they get massive. But man Coldplay in 2003 they were big then, and more original than now.

Who else has there been ...

Of course Devo - not big at all
Brian Wilson - no real substance there huh ?
Supergrass - who were they kidding
Doves - just some birds right ?
Queens of the Stoneage - wonder who they are ?
Sonic Youth - oh yeah they are too old know right ?
The Living End - what more can I say
Grinspoon - they are big aren't they ?

Xzibit - wow I wish he headlined the Mix Up Tent

Took out all the bands that don't make sense at Splendour.

You're definitely missing the point of the festival. For a one-off festival with an attendance not even 10% the size of the total national attendance for BDO or Soundwave, they are doing quite well.

I'm sure they won't mind that you are not interested in attending this year.

craig123

craig123 said on the 3rd Mar, 2010

Yeah it is really packed most of the time - I think there are three crowds in general at splendour - the tipi crowd, the mix up crowd and everyone else. Sometimes they cross over but more often than not the first two stay true to thier cause.

I wonder what and how many tent arrangements will be this year - still three or maybe another smaller one ?
