With Spoon announced on the bill for Groovin’ The Moo earlier this week, the Texan indie troupe is also visiting the big cities for headline shows. This tour follows the release of seventh album Transference, which sees the band in focused and daring form.

The last time we saw Spoon in these parts was for the 2008 Big Day Out tour, when the damn fine Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga had got its hooks in. In addition to the festival slots, the four-piece was brilliant company at its sideshows and as Arcade Fire’s support.

Spoon make the following stops on their April/May circuit. Tickets to headline shows on sale 16 February.

Friday April 30th – Melbourne, Billboard
Wednesday 5th – Brisbane, The Hi-Fi
Thursday 6th – Coolangatta, Cooly Hotel
Friday 7th – Sydney, The Forum
Thursday 13th – Adelaide, Fowlers Live
Friday 14th – Perth, Astor Theatre

I don't get how $53-$60 (depending on which state) is expensive?

This is a band with a very strong and extensive back catalogue. I have paid much more for bands with far less quality in their musical output.

It's not the quality of the band that's in question here. More it's the size of the band itself - I didn't think they were "big" enough to warrant more than fifty dollars on their ticket price.

I paid $55 for a Trail of Dead ticket at The Forum. I would say Spoon are bigger than Trail of Dead.

The Tivoli is charging $50 or more for most international bands (regardless of size) these days.

Its a bit frustrating actually.

In my opinion a lot of those punk/hardcore tours tend to be cheaper because on the whole the audience demographic is substanially younger and can afford to pay less for a ticket.

I would also say that Spoon has a higher profile than those bands. I won't disagree with you on the 'decent international' bit though.

Last night was the third time I've seen them, and I've realised that they have basically no stage presence or personality. Their songs are cool and all, but the way they execute them just leaves me feeling completely flat.

Also, no Way We Get By, Sister Jack or Jonathon Fisk. Boo!

yeah they were saying that last night - apprently they're playing a 500 capacity venue, and have only sold 50 tickets, so they told everyone to just come to the Cooly show...

the problem is, i didnt see many people with paper tickets last night - booking over the website gives you a printout to bring, which you gave to staff and never get back. I guess the 3rd party resellers give out tickets, but then the HiFi probably just take them anyway, and noone was handing out tickets on the way out...

EDIT : Oops, just realised they said receipt, so I guess printing out the tickets again would work...
