The Spitfires to Support TheCribs
Tue 26th Jan, 2010 in Local News
Local brit-indie-punk sounding trio The Spitfires have just been given the support slot for The Cribs for the WA leg of their Australian tour. They’ll be joined by The Words at the Rosemount on February 13.
The Cribs have just released their fourth album, Ignore The Ignorant the follow up to 2007’s Mens Needs, Womens Needs Whatever. The first single Cheat on Me is already getting a healthy amount of airplay. Originally just three brothers – Ryan, Gary and Ross Jarman – The Cribs recruited a new member for their latest album and for their Australian tour; Johnny Marr, the former guitarist and songwriter for The Smiths. The story goes that Marr heard one of their singles on the radio in 2006 and loved it, met the band, agreed to do an EP with them and then joined the band for good.
The Spitfires are currently holed up in the studio recording their next cd Dead? Good. but when they got the call offering them the Cribs support they decided it was time for a studio break. For a band whose lead singer was once accused, by media who should have known better, of having a fake pommy accent, the call couldn’t have come at a better time. Sean Regan credits their One Movement Fringe Festival Performance of last year for the break when a fellow from Civil Society took an interest in their work.
If you haven’t caught The Spitfires in a while, they have a headline show of their own coming up at the Rosemount on Friday with Foulplay, The Smiling Assasins and Applebite.
