Big Day Out 2010 begins
Mon 18th Jan, 2010 in Local News
Sweaty mosh-pits and sunburn marked Big Day Out’s first Australian stop in the Gold Coast yesterday. The Parklands began to heave early on, with the succession of Karnivool, Mastodon and Kasabian on the Orange and Blue stages ensuring it was already hot and heavy by three pm.
While Lily Allen has dominated the tabloid coverage (she made the Daily Telegraph upset by “swearing at journalists”), the day itself was ruled by charged performances. As expected, Dizzee Rascal’s summer-ready set was a crowd-pleaser, despite the Londoner being hit in the eye with a deodorant bottle. While it seemed like he was going to get in the crowd and deal with the offending punter himself, security diffused the situation.
As for contentious headliners Muse, they brought all the necessary bombast to the closing honours, while over at the Green Stage Fear Factory hammered it home for the metal-heads.
FasterLouder had the talented Kylie Keene on the ground at the Parklands to bring us all the action for the photo pit.
