In news that is sure to have the FL faithful reaching for a Kleenex, reports have emerged that after eight long years Australian Idol is no more.

ABC.net reports that despite an assurance from host Andrew G at the end of last year’s grand final broadcast that the show would be back, Channel Ten plans to – œrest’ Australian Idol in 2010. With 2 million less people tuning into the recent finale then in 2003 and a notably lacklustre top twelve, the reported axing comes as a surprise to few.

Although Channel Ten is refusing to comment, Eddy Current advocate Ian – œDicko’ Dickson has revealed that his contract will not be renewed in 2010.

Whatever will become of Sunday nights in this country without effeminate Christians destroying classic Queen songs to entertain us?

I've never heard of this guy, but the guy who replaced Kyle Sandilands as a judge on Australian Idol, Jay Dee Springbett has died.

Former Australian Idol judge Jay Dee Springbett has been found dead in an eastern Sydney apartment.

Springbett, 36, was found dead in a Woolloomooloo unit late yesterday.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said the death was not considered suspicious.

Andrew Gunsberg, a former Idol host, wrote of his shock over Springbett's death on Twitter.

"I'm completely sidelined by the news of Jay Dee Springbett's death," he wrote.

"My deepest thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues."

Springbett replaced Kyle Sandilands as a judge in 2009, when the radio host was sacked from Idol.

Springbett, originally from England, also worked as the head of artist and repertoire (A&R) at Sony Music.

When he took up the role as judge on the reality show, Springbett told the Herald the opportunity to offer advice to artists on making it in the notoriously tough music industry was his way of "giving back".

There's a Mark Holden joke in there somewhere. I got as far as this picture and his catch phrase "Touchdown" and gave up.
