Rowland S. Howard dies
Wed 30th Dec, 2009 in Local News
Aussie punk legend Rowland S. Howard has reportedly lost his lengthy battle with liver cancer, passing away this morning at Melbourne’s Austin Hospital aged 50.
Although there has yet to be an official statement released by Howard’s management, Australian music website Mess + Noise reports that his family have confirmed his passing.
A pivotal member of The Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party, Howard’s health began to rapidly deteriorate earlier this month, forcing him to pull out of Homebake and cancel a number of other scheduled shows.
Howard only recently released his long-awaited solo sophomore Pop Crimes, an album that sat atop many critics – œBest Of’ lists for 2009 and was described by FasterLouder’s reviewer as a reaffirmation of “Howard’s place as one of Australia’s great songwriters”.
Rowland S. Howard will be sorely missed by the Australian music community.
