Free Local Music

Real to Reel Recording Studio and the Foodchain Youth Events Program has come up with a cool idea for this Christmas – They’ll be giving local bands some free recording time and letting the punters in to experience some live music and see how the whole recording thing works.

Between December 18 and 23, seasoned sound engineer Laurie Sinagra and photographer Elizabeth Stacey will capture the action as bands come in, set up, record as many tracks as possible, and get out within a couple of hours.

Real to Reel enables audiences to access the purely physical experience of watching live music while exposing them to the equally important recording process.

The public are invited to come by and watch their favourite bands at 278 William Street, Northbridge, then download all the tracks for free later that night from www.foodchainperth.com/realtoreel

Kick off the holiday season in style and check out:

Friday December 18
Alarming riffs and dulcet drone from Craig McElhinney and trippy psych-meanderings from Tame Impala-offshoot Pond

Saturday December 19
Nouveau no-wavers Shock! Horror! and their subsidiaries Ideal Family and Erasers and dreamy soundscapes from post-shoegaze melody makers My Majestic Star

Sunday December 20
Sisters from another mother Simone and Girlfunkle and their charming harmonies before the driving man-melodies of the highest order from Sean Pollard’s Split Seconds

Monday December 21
Ballsy blues from howlin’ hootenannies The Hayley Beth Love Affliction and potent boy-girl pulsations from folk friends Stereoflower

Tuesday December 22

Wednesday December 23
Newfangled solo songs and updated Lazy Railway tracks from twang-happy Jesse Woodward and Div Craft & the Big Old Bears and Bombastic South Sudanese rhythms from pounding 8-piece Exodus Musica

Stop by 278 William Street between 12-4pm on December 18 to 23 to watch it go down. Recording takes place between approximately 12-1:30pm and 2-3:30pm each day.
