Empire of The Sun frontman and FasterLouder ‘person of the year’ Luke Steele took some time out from polishing his ARIAs last week to reveal exclusively to FL that he has “pretty much written” a new Sleepy Jackson album.
Despite reports in June that he had moved away from The Sleepy Jackson for a while, Steele confirmed that we can indeed expect a third installment from his original musical project before 2011.
“I think I’ve pretty much written a lot of the new album, but funnily enough, the record company doesn’t seem too interested at the moment. That’s okay for me, though, buys me a bit of time for the moment. [The album should be out] definitely in the next decade but not in the next 12 months – I’d want to, but I don’t think so, no.”
The highly anticipated release will be the first from the band since 2006’s stunning sophomore Personality – One Was A Spider, One Was A Bird. When we quizzed Steele as to whether the forthcoming album will reflect his new-found love for electronic music, he jestingly admitted that, “Empire definitely changed everything; it set a new bar, really. I’ll have to do something different with my hair. Maybe I’ll go red-head next.”
It seems we’ll just have to wait and see what – œThe Steele’ comes up with next.
