We’ve been hearing a fair bit about Manjimup lately, and the good things going on down there for young original bands thanks to Andre Foulon and his Bands@Manjimup organisation that provides a place for decent original bands to play and local youth to hone skills relating to the industry, whether it’s promotion, photography or production.
The other thing Manjimup has going on is that they grow cherries. Each year they have a cherry festival to coincide with the first harvest. This year there will be plenty of live music for cherry-lovers’ entertainment, but the two pips we’re most interested in are the Friday night youth concert Quake which includes all bands Fasterlouder has been impressed by in the recent past, and the Sunday Tremors, a gentler Sunday session selection of artists with a couple of repeats due to high demand.
The Quake bill includes:
We Are The Emergency
Minute 36
Ashoka
Laced Affair
Thursday’s Page
The Tremors bill includes:
Natasha Bouchard
Mo Wilson and the Drivers
John Webber
Ashoka
Minute 36
Laced Affair
Both events happen in the Manji Timber park, Friday 11th December 6pm till late, Sunday 13th December all day, 10-4pm. Entry is free to both.
Festivals in our state’s south west are rarely quiet events, and the Cherry festival is one of those that people look forward to all year, so if you’re keen to get a look in, find some accommodation before you leave, or pack a tent and a blankie and be prepared to use them.
