For fans of Sydney’s favourite boutique festival the Playground Weekender Festival, which takes place over several days at Wisemans Ferry in February, the wait for a lineup announcement has been excruciatingly long. We’ve had several names confirmed over the past month, including Brian Jonestown Massacre and Bertie Blackman, whilst an unconfirmed lineup has been doing the rounds on the web for the last week or two. However, FL can finally confirm the 1st-round official lineup announcement, with the good folks over at Playground claiming there’ll be many more massive names on the way.

As always the line-up boasts an impressive blend of bands and dance music sure to please dedicated Playground attendees. Heading things up will be hip-hop heavyweight Lupe Fiasco, Tim DeLaughter’s delightful troop of love-makers the Polyphonic Spree and those cheeky lads from Yorkshire The Cribs.

The local contingent is also looking very fine with Regular John, Goons Of Doom, Snowdroppers and, er, Bjorn Again all confirmed to be playing.

Set in the luxurious surrounds of Del Rio Riverside Resort on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, the newly expanded four-day fiesta will be make triumphant return after 2009’s excellent affair, which was hailed as one of the best events of the season. The music is only the beginning: there’s fancy dressups on Saturday night, punters camp out over the weekend and it’s all about getting away from the city and soaking in the vibe.

Playground Weekender takes over Del Rio Resort at Wisemans Ferry, NSW, from 18 to 21 February 2010. Tickets on sale now, check out the first-round lineup below:

I think the long wait hyped this up too much in my mind...
Was expecting something better, oh well I'm sure it will make some happy.
Decided to buy one of the last Brisbane Soundwave tix instead
And front row centre for Marianne Faithfull @ Tivoli, Woot!

So the long wait has all been about them trying to find a headliner..........which they clearly couldnt get. Hopefully Royksopp will be on the same festival as Massive Attack. that would be awesome.

Maybe the organisers weren't thinking about your individual likes and dislikes when they picked the lineup... Maybe they didn't even pick the lineup and spent the last month lowering their booking standards until they got enough bands to sign...

I agree with Napoleon on this one. Polyphonic Spree and Lupe are the only two real acts that interest me, and I've seen them both before.

i fell asleep reading the line-up. that has to be the most half-arsed, scraping the bottom of the barrell line-up ever. disappointing! does anyone want to buy my ticket..or swap for a laneway festival sydney ticket.
