ARIA Awards winners

A Nick Littlemore-less Empire Of The Sun led the charge at the ARIA Awards last night, picking up the top four honours. Luke Steele was there in full regalia to collect the awards for Album Of The Year, Single Of The Year, Best Pop Release and Best Group (or should that be Best One-Man Group?).

Best Rock Album eluded The Drones for their fierce Havilah, instead going to music’s biggest earners AC/DC for Black Ice. True to FasterLouder’s hopes, Sarah Blasko was named Best Female Artist, while pop/soul export Daniel Merriweather took Best Male Artist over the likes of Paul Dempsey and CW Stoneking. Meanwhile, Ladyhawke silenced the nationalistic naysayers by going home with the Breakthrough Artist award.

When they plugged Lisa Mitchell, Kate Miller Heidke, and Sarah Blasko singing together I expected it to be the three of them singing a song together.

Them all singing their singles one after another as a crudely put together medley was hardly particularly riveting.

Boring, dull and predictable, as always.

I'd like EOTS if they weren't so showy and full of themselves.

I don't mind Empire, the album is solid and I think it's testament to how talented the man is. I'm just more of a Sleepy Jackson type. It's the general public's music taste that worries me.

I actually quite like a few EOTS tracks. I think that has to do with the frequent play-time Michael McDonald gets in our house though.

i usually get the 'high sellers snobbery' towards successful albums but i quite enjoy the empire of the sun record with its cheesy stars wars poster art cover.

the singles were catchy enough to sell a lot of records and massive sales doesn't always correlate with being shit (kings of leon being an exception). steele always tries interesting things at least. mgmt are kinda average by comparison imo.
