Having just visited Sydney on promo duties, Vampire Weekend is plotting a more comprehensive tour for 2010. Speaking to FasterLouder’s Albert Santos ahead of the band’s sold-out showcase at Oxford Art Factory, drummer Chris Tomson revealed we might be waiting till May.

The indie pin-ups were hotly-tipped for the Big Day Out, but according to Tomson “it didn’t work out”. When the occasion does come, however, it won’t be a quick dash.

“We actually got a lot of emails from people who are upset that we’re only playing Sydney this tour,” the skins-man revealed. “But we definitely have a lot of fans here and the shows we played here last year were just all really fucking good crowd-wise. I’m not sure when it’s going to be, honestly. I feel like it’s going to be May? I think that’s what were trying to do.

“We want to get to Perth, cause we haven’t been over there,” he continued. “Hopefully we’re going to do a whole tour, because there are people here that definitely want to see us. I feel that bands come here, do Sydney, Melbourne, don’t go further than the east coast – when you go to those other towns everyone is just fucking pumped. I feel like we definitely want to get to Perth.”

Keep an eye on FasterLouder for the full Vampire Weekend interview in coming weeks, and of course the new album Contra out 8 January on XL Recordings via Remote Control Records.
