Following on from Mumford & Sons’ Sydney stand, Laneway Festival has unveiled more enticing 2010 sideshows. The bumper announcement includes Sydney and Melbourne dates for Florence and the Machine, Hockey and Wild Beasts.
The Florence and the Machine show will be a special one for fans of this year’s Mercury Prize-nominated Lungs. FasterLouder’s reviewer described the voice of Florence Welch as “a precocious, beautiful thing that spits in the eye of conformity to thrash, buck, purr and coo at will”; and it’s sure to translate powerfully live. We might even see her climbing scaffolding in four-inch heels while holding a note.
Also doing two shows a-piece are Portland quartet Hockey (whose frenetic Northern summer of festivalling has put them in fine stead) and indie high achievers Wild Beasts, whose second album Two Dancers is one of 2009’s triumphs.
