If there was any doubt Grinspoon are Lismore’s favourite sons, it was put to rest this week by Southern Cross University. According to local newspaper The Northern Star, the Lismore-based uni has gone out of its way to “sort something out” for Grinners guitarist Pat Davern after learning that he was being denied re-enrolment.

Back in the day, Davern quit a life of study at Southern Cross for the rock – œn roll dream. Despite a busy band schedule that this year saw the release of sixth album Six To Midnight (expect a review on FasterLouder before…the end of 2009), Davern recently returned to complete the course. However, his efforts were thwarted by long-outstanding parking fines and a couple of overdue library books.

The man revealed his woes to Triple J in a recent interview, and as fate would have it, the uni’s Student Services manager Sarah Beresford was tuned in.

Beresford told The Northern Star she’s since contacted Davern to get him back in. “I’m just so pleased that Pat is returning to his studies, both for him and for the university,” she said. “There is a nice symmetry. He is returning to the place where it all began.”
