The Raw Gallery in South Melbourne hosts an exhibition of Jeff Buckley taken by his official tour and promotional photographer Merri Cyr.
– œJeff Buckley – A Wished For Song’ features 35 photographs taken by Merri Cyr during her five years working with Jeff Buckley began from 1992 until his untimely death in 1997.
Buckley pushed his record company to give Cyr the job of producing an image for his first release – the Live at Sin-e EP in 1993. She went on to shoot the iconic Grace LP cover image in 1994, the photographs used on his posthumous release Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk in 1998 and worked as Jeff’s official tour photographer in 1994.
Merri Cyr became interested in photography as a teenager in the early eighties after winning modelling contest and being photographed by world famous fashion photographer Richard Avedon. She has been a professional photographer since 1988, photographing musicians and artists including TV on the Radio, Antony, Coldplay and Joey Ramone.
Entry to – œJeff Buckley – A Wished For Song’ is free and all images are available to buy as fine art quality, signed limited edition photographs. Copies of Cyr’s book A Wished For Song – A Portrait of Jeff Buckley, which includes 360 photos and interviews personally conducted by Cyr, will also be available.
To celebrate the opening of the show The Raw Gallery will host a talk by Merri Cyr accompanied by a slideshow and book signing at 6.00pm on Sunday 29 November. Her talk promises to be an informative insight into her career of music photography. Attendees will receive a copy of A Wished For Song – A Portrait of Jeff Buckley as part of their entry.
