The much-loved Abercrombie Hotel is the latest venue to fall in Sydney’s march towards late-night mediocrity.

The long-time home of Purple Sneakers and many other intermittent parties has announced it will close its doors in mid-January 2010. Aside from the music on offer, its grungy charms, pub-priced beers and summery outdoor courtyard will be sorely missed.

A statement from Purple Sneakers confirms: “The last Purple Sneakers event at the venue will be held on Friday January 15th. Purple Sneakers as a club night will be moving to another venue the following Friday January 22nd, details to come.”
