The Mars Volta sideshows

The Mars Volta is set to bring the bombast at three huge sideshows this January whilst in Australia for the Big Day Out. Existing purely as the experimental egress for the weird and wonderful minds of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta has continued to defy expectations with the release of each successive album.

The band’s fifth and most recent release Octahedron was described by our FasterLouder reviewer as “…a bold step forward for a duo who are always miles in front.” Fans will be pleased to hear that to help bring this album to life in a live setting, the band is touring as a – œstripped-back’ six- piece with rumoured to be fired drummer Thomas Pridgen.

FasterLouder is proud to present The Mars Volta:

Monday 18 January – Tivoli, Brisbane
Wednesday 20 January – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
Monday 25 January – Festival Hall, Melbourne

Tickets on sale Monday 16th November

Check out the photos from their last tour here Or delve into the mythical world of Omar and Cedric here.

Ugh, Festival Hall again. Good call Stefan, I believe they played 8 songs last year, the show was about 2 hours 30 minutes then as well. But looking at recent setlists, it seems they're playing a bit more stripped-back these days.

Where would you have them in Melbourne, Neeso? The Forum? Billboard?

You're shitting me, right?

There's no fucking way Kasabian could fill the Hordern.

The Forum would have been preferable, they were great there last year.

You obviously didn't read the thread where Snips spoke of how they couldn't even give tickets away last time they were here.

Then again, apparently they have a hit on the radio now. Worked for Phoenix.

I can't decide what would be more boring a Kasabian show or a Mars Volta show.

Confused them with Razorlight. Hardly a mistake, bands like this are pretty much interchangeable.

This. Didn't really like the venue at all for them, felt too far away although the backdrops were amazing.

They've played their last three tours there. Surely their fanbase has expanded? Or is it the same 5500 art-prog guys every time?

As for the Kasabian thing, will clarify: they sold out the enmore, just, last time. But it was the Ashes and a lot of Barmy Army tour groups bought tickets. They don't have that support, but they do have a couple of radio friendly hits. Splits even.

Even, Arctic Monkeys got upped a venue earlier this year, to a different day as well. Not uncommon.
