The Decemberists – sure to be the indie heroes of Big Day Out 2010 – will be taking time for two sideshows in January. It’s a cause for rejoicing amongst fans, who’ve waited a long time to see the Oregon five-piece in these parts.

The band released its fifth album of grandiose folk The Hazards Of Love earlier this year, earning the kind of effusive praise they’ve grown accustomed to. While they’ll prove a welcome change of pace at Big Day Out, The Decemberists’ live show will be at its best in these theatre settings.

The Decemberists play this pair of sideshows while here for Big Day Out 2010. Tickets on sale Monday 19 October.

Tuesday 19 January – The Metro Theatre, Sydney
Sunday 24 January – Billboard, Melbourne

we saw them do that, it was fucking fantastic, the encore of random other songs felt really lacklustre by comparison...

not sure if they'll do it again here, but we can all keep our fingers crossed...

i listen to plenty of albums, stefan. but in my not very humble opinion, the hazards of love is the greatest i've ever heard. there's something about the ebb and flow of that record, especially on vinyl...

yeah, i'm gonna have to miss them methinks, there's no way we can afford bdo tickets this year. but considering i don't actually like their other albums (weird, huh?), i'm not sure if i'd want to go to a regular gig!

i am hoping melbourne doesn't sell out as it's at billboards well at least for a few weeks, but melbourne is starting to sell out faster than sydney shows of lat (ie grizzly bear corner show sold out in under a day) as i'm planning to do both shows. Fingers crossed they play engine driver from picaturesque, definitely the best decemberists record.

ive never checked out this band. i assumed i would dislike them for similar reasons to why i know i dislike augie march.. do they have good song arrangements or is it just some self-important guy with a big thesaurus?
