Local indie punksters Super Best Friends will be sharing the Stonefest stage with the Living End and Josh Pyke after winning the first ever Stonefest Catapult Competition.
A panel of industry insiders selected five bands out of more than 40 entries and then left the final say to the public. An overwhelming 3000+ votes were received and the judges said it was a very close race right up until voting closed on Friday October 2.
University of Canberra graduate and Super Best Friends’ lead guitarist, Johnny Barrington, is excited to be given the opportunity to play with Australia’s best. “This is a gig that we’ve wanted to play for a really long time. I can’t wait to play with Frenzal Rhomb and Birds of Tokyo, who are doing similar things to us but on a much larger scale!” says Barrington.
Johnny was proud to have won such a tough competition against The Heroines, Kasha, Hoodlum Shouts and Starfish Hill. “We’re humbled to be picked out of such a quality field of local bands.”
Super Best Friends will be joining a host of local acts early on in the day including National Campus Band Competition winners The Trivs as well as Ashleigh Mannix and Hancock Basement.
Stonefest organisers encourage festival goers to arrive early this year to witness some of the amazing local talent that Canberra has to offer.
