Surely one of the more interesting ways to welcome in 2010 will be at The Brewery in Newcastle featuring The Living End, Children Collide, Dead Letter Circus and Benjalu.

Hot on the heels of the success of their latest effort White Noise, The Living End return to Australia to bring in the new year after a stint entertaining European crowds. Sharing the stage will be Melbourne trio Children Collide, Brisbane based alternative breakthrough band Dead Letter Circus and local roots rock outfit Benjalu.

Tickets go on sale Friday morning October 9, with early bird ticket buyers entering the draw to win exclusive VIP passes for the event as well as pre-show drinks with The Living End and Children Collide.

Tickets available through Ticketek and Oztix. Gates open 6pm with fireworks at 9pm and midnight.

what's your favourite TLE album? mine is white noise. i think it shows a level of maturity that they've not really touched upon before. the lyrics are more meaningful and the hooks are catchier

I've been a big Living End fan ever since the release of their 2006 album, State Of Emergency. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on State Of Emergency where Chris Cheney's presence became more apparent. I think Long Live The Weekend was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Cheney, Owen and Strachan. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Wake Up. In this song, Chris Cheney addresses the problems of abusive political authority. Nothing Lasts Forever is the most moving pop song of the 2000s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Modern Artillery is my fave, no real reason, songs like Jimmy, In The End, Rising Up from the Ashes, and most favourite, Hold Up. I wish theyd play smaller gigs again.
