As if they didn’t have enough on their plate with ¬the summer festival season approaching oh-so-quickly, the good people at Sunset Events have teamed up with ARTRAGE to tackle another project.
Sunset Events have launched a new not-for-profit division devoted to all things art, called SE Arts; who, alongside well known arts initiative ARTRAGE, are establishing an exciting new arts commission project offering $10,000 to a WA artist to design and produce a unique, large-scale sculpture that will become the iconic centrepiece for Sunset Events’ summer festival season
This is a great opportunity for local artists to create a diverse and completely unique range of installations across all of Sunset Events’ major festivals, including One Movement For Music Perth, Steresonic, Southbound, St. Jerome’s Laneway and the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival.
Submissions are now open and will close at 5pm Friday, October 23 2009. The Sculpture Commission will be awarded on November 14.
Entry for the Sculpture Commission is free and submissions should encompass and/or reference the following themes and concepts, which form part of Sunset Events’ festival doctrine:
The summer festival season with Sunset Events (live music, community goodwill, exploration, sunshine, adventure and a celebration of all things WA).
SE Arts (creativity, freedom, innovation, positivity and experimentation).
Environmental concerns are foremost in Sunset Events’ vision and operation of its festivals. Therefore, entrants are encouraged to utilise recycled materials or represent environmental themes in their submission.
All artwork submissions will be assessed by a panel that includes: Marcus Canning (Artrage Director/CEO), Joy Legge (Independent Art Consultant Curator and Valuer) and Tony Jones (Award Winning Sculptor).
Further information, entry details and application forms can be found by visiting the Sunset Events website, www.sunsetevents.com.au and following the link to SE Arts or by emailing hello@artrage.com.au.
