Melbourne residencies inOctober
Thu 1st Oct, 2009 in Local News
With so many gigs on in Melbourne every week you could be forgiven for showing up to the bar on the wrong night to catch that band you’ve been meaning to check out. But with a residency: if miss them this week you can always try again the week after.
So there’s really no excuse to miss Ghostwood, Repairs, The Demon Parade or royalchord in Melbourne this October with all playing residencies across town.
Tuesday:
Tuesdays in October are all about Repairs at the Birmy. The post-punk keyboard and percussion group only played their first show nine months ago, and have already gone onto supporting great bands and playing Flip Out Festival. They kick it off their stay at the Birmy on October 6th with Super Star, Acid Casualty and Pissypaw.
Thursday:
Apparently Sydney’s Ghostwood (pictured) “live set has become a transcendental, pulse racing experience”. You’ll have plenty of chances to find out if this is true as they haunt the Workers Club every Thursday in October with weekly support from The Process October 1; The Ocean Party on October 8; Brain Slaves and Tantrums on October 15 and Breaker Morant on October 23.
The royalchord crew at one point swelled to eight members, but now Tammy Haider and Eliza Hiscox play their dusty alt-country as a duo. Their new album The Good Fight is due out on October 10 and you can catch them every Thursday in October in residence at the Edinburgh Castle on Sydney Road.
Friday:
The horned devils of The Demon Parade will spend their Friday nights in residency over at the Royal Derby on Brunswick Street. Their residency is free and also features the lure of $2.50 pots all night. Support comes from The Mohan Veena on the October 2; Cordyceps on October 9; Straw King Eye on October 16; and Carnation and Slight Of Build on October 30.
