Brisbane go between honours GoBetweens

In possibly the most apt way ever to use a structure to honour a band, the Hale street link in Brisbane will be renamed Go Between Bridge.

The name was an overwhelming favourite in an online Brisbane City Council competition and received 31.53% of the vote.

Go Betweens co-founder Robert Forster described the announcement in a similar fashion to how the band’s place in Aussie music history could be described.

“I’ve always regarded bridges as poetic and romantic, so this is something that really appeals to me,” he said.

The name beat 10 other suggestions and received more than twice the votes of the runner up.

The bridge will be opened next year.

Other suggestions included Powderfinger Platform, Custard Conjoin and Regurgitator Reach.
